Product Features

A new standard in direct-drive turntables for audiophiles and vinyl enthusiasts alike, the Technics Grand Class SL-1200GR Direct-Drive Turntable combines unique technology developed by Technics for a modern turntable of the digital age with all of the warmth we love from playing our vinyl records.

The box was damaged on the way into our warehouse, but the turntable is brand new and undamaged.

The Technics SL-1200 was a hit from the start, designed as a turntable that was durable enough for professional use yet simple and elegant enough for domestic use. The SL1200, which debuted in the early 1970s and has since gone through numerous revisions, is still widely regarded as the standard club deck. The new SL1200GR model is intended to appeal to both DJs and audiophiles. This turntable has a wide range of capabilities and can do it all.

A coreless motor was first designed for the top-spec 'G' model to reduce vibration. The development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor eliminates 'cogging,' a problem that can occur with other direct-drive decks.

The SL-1200GR tests and corrects the precision of the motor for precise pitch stability using motor control technology developed for Blu-ray players.

The SL-1200GR is built in such a way that it reduces vibration and improves sound quality. The new die-cast aluminium platter has rear-bracing and weighs 800 grammes more than the MK5 predecessor. The increased bulk and rigidity increases speed stability while also lowering distortion for a cleaner, purer sound.

The S-shaped tonearm is a classic Technics design, with high precision bearings and Technics' gimbal suspension system. It also has a variety of settings, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight, and bias, making it suitable for a wide range of cartridges and even slipmat thicknesses. Swapping cartridges is quick and easy thanks to the detachable head shell.

The SL-1200GR has gold-plated RCA phono connectors instead of static cables like previous SL-1200s. These allow you to select the length and quality of cable that is appropriate for a deck of this calibre.

The Technics SL-1200GR is a class-leader that lets you enjoy rich, robust analogue with digital age advancements.

Smooth, stable rotation
By using a direct drive system (rather than a belt-driven mechanism) the SL-1200GR ensures a long working life with minimal maintenance, while new control technology cuts out vibration and noise from the coreless motor. The result is the smoothest, most stable rotation possible, allowing every detail to be extracted from the vinyl record groove.

A new standard in direct-drive turntables
The weighty 2.5kg platter uses the same two-layer construction as the body of the turntable to reduce resonance and enhance stability; both use a rubber layer to further absorb unwanted vibration.

This ensures that the hand-assembled S-shaped aluminium tonearm(which uses the same high-precision bearings as the range topping Technics SL-1200 G) is able to convey the maximum amount of detail and information through to the gold plated RCA terminals where you can connect cables of your choice to suit the rest of your system.

The Technics SL-1200GR sets a new standard in direct-drive turntables to spearhead the analogue musical revival.
