A Japanese electronics company founded in 1910 as part of the Japan Recorders Corporation (or Nippon Chikuonki Shokai); a manufacturer of single-sided disc records and gramophone, Denon have been in on the ground floor of every major development when it comes to audio technology. Whilst their peers were still convinced that analogue was the past, the present and the future of audio, Denon put their stock in forward-thinking digital technologies, so much so, that they were awarded Billboard magazines “Trend-Setter Award for outstanding contribution to the industry” back in 1977. They were also the first company to sell LP records in Japan and were selling audio cassette tapes as early as 1964, almost 20 years before the rest of the world really caught on. It was in the early seventies that the company began producing hi-fi audio components though, and it’s here that they really found their niche, a niche in which they continue to thrive.
Denon are purveyors of top quality audio equipment. After over 100 years of refining their craft, the brand, which took the Denon name in 1947 when Nippon merged with Denki Onkyo, has extended their reach into everything from stereo separates to boutique quality headphones and radio units. These are not units designed to look particularly sexy or eye-catching, they are all about the sound, the reliability and the unmistakable feel. More recently, the company have been making waves with their wireless HEOS music systems, which allow users to stream their music from a variety of sources throughout their homes with no compromise and complete control.
What you'll also get with any Denon product is a vast range of options. Their units are renowned for their flexibility, with all of their modern products offering full digital and analogue out options, as well as Ethernet network connection, which is fitting, given that they were the first audio company to release an Ethernet cable designed specifically for high-end, lossless digital audio.
Denon is also a brand that always hits the headlines when it comes to awards season. Recently, for example, What Hi-Fi?, the world’s most trusted technology buyer’s guide, names the D-M40DAB stereo system and AVR X2200W amplifier as two of its 2015 Product of the Year Award winners. This is a magazine that knows its stuff, so if you've always fancied yourself as a bit of a trend setter when it comes to your audio gear, and you're looking for a boutique sound at an affordable price, you're definitely in the right place!
