Of all the major Japanese electronics manufacturers, Pioneer are perhaps the one most closely associated with modern electronic music, and this is largely because of their (forgive us) pioneering DJ equipment, which includes the famous CDJ range, the CD-based turntables that have arguably revolutionised the world of the professional disc jockey. Indeed, Pioneer currently leads the professional DJ equipment industry, with innovative products like the world’s first digital vinyl turntable and the world’s first DVD turntable amongst their crowning achievements.
The company was founded in 1938 in Tokyo by Nozomu Matsumoto as a humble radio and speaker repair shop in his home garage, and whilst the company is now based in Kawasaki, just north of Tokyo, and specialises in everything from televisions to karaoke machines, audio equipment remains its bread and butter. Matsumoto was a man with an intimate knowledge and passion for music, and it was his ambition to share it with the world. Over the next 70 years, the company expanded exponentially and internationally into a respected manufacturer of audio and video products for use at home, in the car and in business. Today, the company employs not only a diverse range of audio experts, but experienced scientists and engineers in their research labs, where they are constantly striving to find the next big thing in audio electronics. They also have an incredible focus on quality assurance, so if you order a Pioneer product from us, rest assured you'll be getting a product with a longer than average lifespan.
Whilst Pioneer might have opened up a new realm of possibilities for the modern DJ with their CDJ range, the DJ element of the business was transformed into its own independent entity recently, but the primary brand still provide a range of top quality products for vinyl enthusiasts, with their turntables amongst the best in the business. These are all built with high quality components and a smooth motor, meaning very little of the skipping and crackling associated with older, less reliable turntables. Most of their more recent turntables also include a built-in phono pre-amplifier, which delivers a better performance due to the high-quality capacitors in the signal path, and allows connectivity to a host of devices including a majority of amplifiers, AV receivers and compact systems.
Pioneer is also no slouch when it comes to stereo separates and micro systems. These are affordable systems with a bass response that makes them perfect systems for dance music and hip-hop enthusiasts. That doesn't mean they can't handle anything you can throw at them though! You'll also find that we stock a variety of Pioneer branded headphones, which will look and feel as at home on the bus as they do behind the decks at your local nightclub. So whether you’re an aspiring DJ or just a music fan who favours substance over style, Pioneer could be your brand.
