| Speaker Cable Guide |
 |
-
When ordering speaker cables the length is determined by the
quantity you enter. So, if you wish to buy five metres, enter "5" in
the quantity box.
-
Speaker cable is supplied unterminated. If you need banana
plugs, please add these to your order as required.
-
At your request, we will
fit "banana plugs" (the standard speaker cable termination) and prepare your speaker cables, according to the configuration
that you specify. If you aren't certain how many plugs to order, this guide should
help you.
One of the following three
wiring configurations will apply:
-
Single
wiring: use this configuration when your speakers have a single positive and
single negative connection.
-
Biwiring:
use this configuration when your speakers feature two positive and two negative
connections (we specify whether speakers we sell are biwireable or not, in the
specifications table of all speakers that we sell).
-
Biamping: use this configuration when you speakers feature two positive and
two negative connections as biwiring, and you are using two amplifiers to drive
your speakers (one amplifier for high-frequencies and another amplifier for low
frequencies).
Single wiring:
-
For each speaker, use a two-core
("single-wire") speaker cable.
-
Two banana plugs are
required at each end of each "single-wired" cable run.

-
So, if both your amplifier
and speakers feature banana plug connections and you are "single-wiring", you
will need four plugs for each run of speaker cable - that's a total of eight
plugs for a pair of "single-wired" stereo speakers.
-
If only your speakers or
your amplifier feature banana plug connections, each run requires only two plugs
fitted at one end of the cable run - four plugs for a pair of speakers.
-
Specify in the "Additional
comments" box at the checkout (after you confirm your purchase) whether it is
your amplifier or speakers that feature banana plug terminations, as many
speaker cables are directional and we will want to be sure to fit the plugs at
the correct end of your cable runs. If you aren't certain, let us know the make
and model of your amplifier and speakers and we'll find out.
Biwiring:
-
For each speaker, use a four-core ("biwire")
speaker cable.
-
At the amplifier end of
the cable, two banana plugs are required.
-
At the speaker end of the
cable, four banana plugs are required.

-
So, if both your amplifier
and speakers feature banana plug connections and you are "biwiring", you will
need six plugs for each run of speaker cable - that's a total of twelve plugs
for a pair of "biwired" stereo speakers.
-
If only your amplifier
features banana plug connections, each run requires only two plugs, fitted at
the amplifier end of the cable run.
-
If only your speakers
feature banana plug connections, each run requires only four plugs, fitted at
the speaker end of the cable run.
-
Specify in the "Additional

your amplifier or speakers that feature banana plug terminations, as many

correct end of your cable runs. If you aren't certain, let us know the make and
model of your amplifier and speakers and we'll find out.
-
When wiring up, before
connecting up and
turning your amplifier on, you must remove any linking bars that may be fitted
between each pair of positive and each pair of negative connections, on the rear
of your speakers.
-
Note: if you intend to
upgrade to a "biamped" amplifier system later (see below) and your current
amplifier features two pairs of stereo speaker outputs (commonly labelled "A"
and "B"), you will be better off specifying a "biamped" cable configuration and
running the cables from both "Speakers A" and "Speakers B" outputs of your
amplifier, as the cables will then be suitable for the upgraded configuration,
in the future.
Biamping:
-
For each speaker, use a four-core ("biwire")
speaker cable or two runs of two-core speaker cable in parallel.
-
Four banana plugs are
required at each end of each cable run.

-
So, if your both your
amplifiers and your speakers feature banana plug connections and you are
"biamping", you will need eight plugs for each run of speaker cable - that's a
total of sixteen plugs for a pair of "biamped" stereo speakers.
-
If only your amplifier or
speakers feature banana plug connections, each run requires only four plugs,
fitted at one end of the cable run - eight plugs for a pair of speakers.
-
Specify in the "Additional
