February 2009

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Five Stars
April 2009
"When it comes to audio, there are no complaints: The '51FD has refinement and finesse in spades", "The opening credits to Sweeny Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street sound dynamic and dramatic", "Sweeney's 1080p/24fps picture looks superb too. The Pioneer maintains a firm grip on the frilliest of costume edges", "Pioneer's foray into the lower price points is a great success. This level of performance used to be out of reach for many; the '51FD has made it much more accessible".

The Pioneer BDP-51FD is a high-quality Blu-ray player which delivers a terrific performance, boasts bags of functionality and looks the part too.

With its HDMI connectivity the BDP-51FD delivers the Blu-ray movie experience just as the director intended. Support for the 1080p video resolution means that movies are crisp, detailed and sharp and with the 24 frames per second 'native film' format, you'll see your favourite scenes just as they were originally shot. The BDP51FD will also upscale DVDs to 1080p, so your existing collection will look fantastic too!

But its not just video which is high definition, the BDP51FD handles all the latest HD audio formats beautifully. DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby True HD and Dolby Digital Plus can all be output via HDMI or decoded on-board for output via the 7.1 analogue connections. This makes the player suitable for use with a wide range of AV amps and receivers.

Blu-ray BD Profile 1.1 compliance also lets you view the interactive 'BONUSVIEW' features found on many Blu-ray discs. For example, picture-in-picture commentary - as you watch the movie, the director pops up in the corner of the screen as a 'talking head' and gives you behind the scenes information.

For a superior quality, reasonably priced Blu-ray player that you'll treasure, look no further than the Pioneer BDP-51FD
