AV Cables & Interconnects
At Superfi we have everything you need to connect up your speakers and home entertainment system, including a selection of HDMI cables, video signal cables, analogue leads and interconnects, speaker cables and more.
Analogue audio cables can transmit two channels, to produce stereo sound. They are a good choice if you are looking for something for CD playback, because CDs tend to have just two audio channels encode. However, analogue signals are vulnerable to interference from radio waves and from other surrounding cables. If you are planning on using analogue cables, make sure that they are thick and well-shielded to prevent degradation of quality.
Digital audio cables can carry six or more channels. This means that they are much better for surround sound. They are less vulnerable to interference, but aren’t always higher quality. HDMI cables are the only current digital cable design that offers true high-def surround sound. The HDMI standard does not compress audio signals, unlike other digital standards, so it is the only way to take advantage of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio sound.
Optical cables are a good choice if you need to transmit signals over long distances, because they are highly resilient to interference. However, they are easily damaged if the cables are bent at a severe angle, and they have limited bandwidth, so they cannot be used for anything more than 6-channel audio.
